From Beekeeping to Begonias

Take time this summer to explore moss gardening, learn how to propagate begonias, or create hand-printed works of art with PHS. Whatever your interests, PHS has a unique selection of offerings to choose from. Here are just a few highlights:

Beekeeping 101
Tuesday, June 20, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Join Lou Naylor, President of the New Jersey Mid-State Beekeepers Association and the New Jersey Director of the Eastern Apicultural Society, for an overview of beekeeping. Lou manages the hives at Meadowbrook Farm and will discuss what it takes to provide a happy home for bee friends. Master Gardener and Beekeeper Ann Auerback will talk about the best plants to have in the garden for bees and other pollinators. Fee: $10 PHS Members; $20 Non-Members. Register here.

Hand Printing from Nature Workshop
Thursday, June 29, 1 – 4 p.m.

Create beautiful, detailed, life-size images of plants and fruits with artist and author Laura Bethmann. Laura will guide participants through the art, craft, and science of the ancient technique of Nature Printing. Explore the basic process using inks and paper. Discover many uses for nature printing and its fascinating history. Walk the grounds at Meadowbrook and collect materials to work with. Fee: $45 PHS Members; $55 Non-Members.Register here.

Moss Gardening

Chanticleer Garden

Mosses are adaptable for many garden uses, including soft-bed edges, foundations for low-traffic paths, and displays that stand alone. In this walk, Chanticleer Horticulturist Przemyslaw Walczak will discuss establishing and maintaining a moss garden, the cultural requirements for healthy moss, and good companion plants for the moss garden.
